net-files Security

Your security is our top priority. We know how essential the security of your data is to your business.

Your net-files data and documents are stored in high-security computing centers that are protected against unauthorized access and data loss.

The best security approaches are those that work reliably in the background. To let you know how seriously we take your security, we would like to explain our security concept and make it transparent for you. We want you to feel secure in all phases, and in order to do this, we offer security measures for data transfer, data storage, protecting against unauthorized access and against data loss, all in one package.

Computing Center

The Utomi GmbH uses the infrastructure and computing center of Global Crossing to offer its services. Global Crossing is an international communication and information provider. It operates networks and computing centers across the globe. More than 35% of all Fortune 500 companies are Global Crossing customers. They offer top security and integrated solutions for networks and computing centers.

Protection Against Unauthorized Access

All users that want to access net-files systems must identify themselves using their username and password. Passwords must be a combination of letters, numbers and special characters so that they cannot be easily guessed or cracked.

Access to net-files is carried out using an SSL connection. The authenticity of the connection is guaranteed by Thawte - the world's second largest certification organization.

We have a firewall cluster that guarantees high uptimes from the market leader, Checkpoint. The environment consists of Firewall-1 servers in a Stonebeat cluster running on a dedicated management server. All logfiles and policy rules are stored on the management server. Should one of the Firewall-1 computers fail, another one takes over immediately. If the management server fails, the remaining Firewall-1 servers still continue to run independently. The operation and handling of the FW infrastructure is carried out completely by the computing center operator. This prevents any unauthorized access by other customers with dedicated systems. In addition, dedicated switch ports are used for all dedicated systems.

All systems are constantly monitored against outside attacks. Security measures are taken immediately whenever any suspicious activity is detected by the security team, who are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Servers and Systems

net-files uses servers and storage systems from Dell as a standard. net-files keeps its own store of all necessary spare parts for the main components in order to carry out any necessary repairs as quickly as possible. net-files has maintenance contracts with the manufacturer that guarantee hardware replacements within 24 hours.

All server systems are set-up redudantly, so if any system should fail, its function is taken over immediately using the Hot Stand-by system. Even in the unlikely event that the entire computing center should suffer a failure, all functions will be taken over by a separate backup center in a short amount of time.

Availability Measures

All net-files servers and applications are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by redundant security systems together with its partners. Any problems that arise with one of the components is repaired right away from the service team around the clock.

All systems and components are laid out redundantly so that the failure of one component will not lead to a complete system failure. The function of the failed component is taken over immediately by one of its redundant counterparts.

Should a fire or other non-foreseeable event cause the complete failure or breakdown of the computing center, the entire functionality will be taken over by a Hot Stand-by system shortly afterwards.

Data Protection

All data stored in net-files is, as mentioned above, protected against unauthorized access by third parties through a series of interlocked security measures.

The data is also protected against loss due to system failure, fire or other destructive events.

Data is saved on mirrored disks which are constantly monitored for errors or interruptions, and repaired or replaced whenever necessary. This prevents data loss from occurring due to disk failure. In addition, a daily backup is carried out of all data and stored on a fallback system in an off-site computing center. As a final security measure, a test is run every night in which all data is copied to a remote Hot Stand-by computing center. This makes it impossible to lose data even in the event of a disaster, such as fire.
